In May 2024, Kosmos Festival, a major non-commercial event with over 40 venues in Chemnitz’s city center, reached out to us. Due to the short notice, we had to decline the request to provide an on-site awareness team.
Instead, we proposed something more sustainable:
- Full awareness support for Kosmos Festival 2025
- A needs assessment study during the 2024 even
Our Research Group
A seven-member team of awareness professionals, psychologists, and systemic therapists designed and implemented the study.
Study Design
The study was conducted through in-person surveys during the event and via posters with QR codes distributed throughout the venues. Hundreds of full data sets were collected. Participants were asked about their demographic background, personal experiences at the event, and their lives in general.
Findings
While unsurprising, the data confirmed what we already knew:
- Awareness structures are urgently needed
- Discrimination remains a systemic issue
- Barriers exist everywhere
We also gained insights into which forms of discrimination affect different age groups, how to better reach our audiences, and which communication methods work best.
Conclusion
The survey was a great success and has laid the groundwork for our support of Kosmos Festival 2025 during the European Capital of Culture year.
